Section 13 | Almería – Cabo de Gata

Going deeper into Cabo de Gata

The thirteenth EuroVelo 8 stage covers 45 km, linking the city of Almería to the village of San José, considered to be the capital of the Natural Park Cabo de Gata-Níjar for being the most populated area within the park and for having all necessary services. Impressive beaches and spectacular landscapes such as the salt lakes of Cabo de Gata are found along the route. The salt production in the area covers 400 hectares of flooding land which receive water through a system of channels naturally created due to the unevenness of the field with respect to the sea. The route follows the coastline through promenades, cycling paths and some sand ways and is mostly flat with the exception of two main gradients: the ascent to the lighthouse of Cabo de Gata and the Tower of Vela Blanca, from which you can enjoy sensational views. From this point, the route descents by the path of Vela Blanca close to the wonderful beaches and coves of Mónsul and Genoveses all the way to San José.
