Section 15 | Carboneras – Villaricos

Crossing the east of Almería

The penultimate EuroVelo8 stage of the Andalusian route goes along 35 km from Carboneras to the village of Villaricos. This short but demanding route still entails a harsh climbing in the area of Carboneras, the Collado de la Granatilla, a rather wild mountain pass but with astonishing views. After this ascent, you will enjoy several kilometers of sensational descent until reaching the beach of Bolmayor, after which you will climb the last gradient on the route to continue the way to the villages of Garrucha and Vera, and the beach of Mojácar, this time without unevenness on the land. This stage mixes road sections, cycling paths and promenades all the way up to Villaricos, a quiet coastal village located in the area of Cuevas del Almanzora which was founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BC.
