Section 02 | Conil – Facinas
Along the beaches of Costa de la Luz
This second stage covers 55 km. It begins in Conil de la Frontera and ends in Facinas, passing through Barbate and Zahara de los Atunes. The route runs along the cliffs of the Costa de la Luz and is dotted with battlement towers, defensive towers built since the 16th century throughout the Andalusian coast. When leaving Conil, a first section of 11.5 kilometers is crossed in parallel to the A-2233 road and next to the wonderful beaches of El Palmar and Zahora, to Los Caños de Meca, in front of whose coasts took place one of the most important naval battles of European history: the battle of Trafalgar, in whose memory the London square of Trafalgar Squarewas built. From the Caños de Meca the route goes into the Natural Park of La Breña and Marismas de Barbate, an important extension of pine and where the old watchtower known as Torre del Tajo is located, to reach the fishing municipality of Barbate . From there the Sierra del Retín is bordered, which gives its name to the retina cow, in the direction of the coastal town of Zahara de los Atunes, from where the route moves away from the sea to climb up to Facinas.
